Policemen allegedly involved in the rape of a widow for not wearing face mask have been summoned by Commissioner of Police .

The Commissioner of Police (CP) of Rivers state, Joseph Mukan has transferred the case of alleged rape on a 32-year-old widow by a policeman to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

The rape victim whose identity is undisclosed alleged that four police men arrested her on Tuesday night, July 28 at Sakpenwan, Tai LGA, for not wearing face mask while she was on transit in a Port Harcourt bound vehicle from Bori, but, instead of taking her into police custody, they took her to a guest house where one of the policemen she called Inspector Peter Iba raped her all night “at gunpoint.

News Pot Nigeria reports that CP Mukan on Thursday opened investigations into the alleged matter and summoned the four man police team and the victim, it was also reported that Mr. Mukan has transferred the case file to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

Police Spokesman, Rivers Command, SP Nnamdi Omoni, stated that, “The CP ordered the matter investigated. The rape victim made her statement on Wednesday and today (Thursday)”. He added that “the men that had encounter with the lady are not from Tai Police Station as she insinuated. They were rather from Mobile Police Base 56 at Bori”.

“All the suspects denied the allegation , but the investigations will reveal what happened. Witnesses will be involved, scene of crime visited and other things to follow in course of investigations” He said.

This is abuse of power and betrayal of public trust. The CP needs to bring the offender to justice.
