Chelsea captain, Cesar Azpilicueta has blamed himself and his teammates for not being able to beat Valencia following their 2-2 draw with the La Liga side in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Azpilicueta reported that Frank Lampard’s men did not play the game well against Valencia, saying that they did not create more danger and chances in front of goal against the host.
Carlos Soler broke the deadlock before Mateo Kovacic made it 1-1 just before half-time.
Chelsea appeared on course for victory as Christian Pulisic gave them the lead and Kepa Arrizabalaga saved Daniel Parejo’s penalty, but Dane Wass grabbed a fortuitous equaliser for the hosts at the death.
We didn’t control the game well against Valencia.
“We had a good reaction to the first goal but when we were 2-1 up we should have created more danger, more chances.
“Valencia are a good team, they have quality, and they pushed to the end because they wanted to qualify as well.
“It was a good game. Both teams wanted to win, they had chances, there was a penalty, VAR – everything.
“We’d prefer to have the three points but we have qualification in our hands against Lille at home. Source BT sports.
